The month of April was one for the books. After a crazy and tumultuous March, April turned out to be a breath of fresh air I learned a lot about myself and how far I can push as well as be pushed. So here's my push for who ever may need it.

How April showed up for me.

In April I learned to be unapologetic while being myself and the happiness just wont stop. I let go of an old story; one that I kept reliving or revisiting and since I've been watching a dream of mine open up and flourish before my eyes. Last month taught me that it was OK to look back but I didn't have to live there. Often we get used to telling the same story and completely forget that yesterday is over and today is a brand new day.

Lately...

I've been asked about what one shouldn't wear with a certain body shape. I'm going to be very honest. You can wear anything with ANY body shape. However the cut, color, and fit have a lot to do with it. I often hear women who aren't shaped like traditional plus models complain about not being able to wear certain items. Let me say YOU CAN! You must release the image of what we (those mushing media images) tell you what you must look like. Many of the famous plus size models are not shaped like me. I have a small chest (Thank God for push -up bras), narrow shoulders, a round tummy, wide hips and back side with skinny ankles. I'm definitely not the typical image you see on ads, popular Instagram accounts or even the most talked about Facebook personalities. However, If I allowed those images to completely influence my wardrobe I'd never have the gall to assist as many women as I do. Stop living in your same fashion story, embrace change. Open a new book and turn the page to a new chapter.

All you need is a good sense of what shapes, cuts, and colors look good and a great eye for spotting investment pieces. That means BIG women you can wear lingerie, bikinis, jumpers, rompers, leggings, midi skirts and whatever other current trends you'd like to try. Step outside your box and try something new. This past Sunday was absolutely beautiful and I felt just as good as the sun felt on my skin. Between teaching, designing, tutoring, writing and styling I have not had the time to actually play dress up and hit the streets of Atlanta. Sunday I had a few moments to myself so I decided to slip on a skirt and comfy sandals, and spend a day enjoying a little retail therapy and ice cream.

The jewel of the South and a Mecca for entrepreneurs, Atlanta is the place to be in 2015. According to Fox News 'Small Business Center' women owned businesses have increased over 60 percent in almost 20 years. I highly recommend the read, as it further breaks down male to female ratio among young entrepreneurs. The article also continued to lay out why female businesses are here to stay and are expected to continue growing.

Among that group of women are the style trendsetters of Atlanta. Through independent editorials, YouTube, Instagram post and even plus size fashion weeks, women are changing the way we do fashion and style. Gone are the days where large fashion houses and A list celebrities are the sole influencers of new trends. Today, a trendy educator from the east side of Atlanta can be seen as a social media style icon. These women have created careers through blogging the latest fashion trends, opening online clothing boutiques as well as planning and executing Atlanta's own Curvy Fashion Week. This list only scratches the surface but here are 6 of Atlanta's newest and burgeoning style Trailblazers.

Galyn Fergerson

Galyn is a Digital Marketing and Event Planner in metro Atlanta area. She's was the executive producer for Curves Fashion Week, which is the first plus size fashion week produced in Atlanta. Along with her behind the scenes work Galyn is no stranger to the camera. Galyn's been apart of major campaigns such as Spanx; a coveted brand of ladies support wear. Ms. Fergerson has also had a stint with reality television with TV One on 'Love Addiction'. A phenomenal woman in her own right, Galyn is etching her way through the Atlanta Fashion scene and already cultivating a legacy of excellence.

Marie Denee

Marie is new on the Atlanta scene but definitely not new to the Plus Size fashion community. Over the past 6 years she's improved her brand The Curvy Fashionista, which features some off today's hottest fashion trends. Through the years TCF has gone through major overhaul and is now one of the top fashion contributors for Huffington Post, Plus Model Magazine, USA Today and many more. On top of all of her accomplishments Mari also holds an MBA in Marketing Fashion, so it's safe to say that Ms. Deane is more than just beauty.

Maui Bigalow

On the rise with no end in sight Ms. Bigalow is ready to rightfully claiming her position in the Plus Size blogger-sphere. She has an assortment of degrees and accolades that have contributed to reach within the style. In just two years time Maui has turned PHAT GIRL FRESH into a budding enterprise. Her accolades have included featured writings in Essence and S2S . This budding entrepreneur is also an advocate for bettering the lives of other women through Dress For Success Atlanta and Diva Day International. On May 2nd PHAT GIRL FRESH will be celebrating it's 2 year anniversary in style in Marrow, Georgia.

Jessica Camerata

The owner of My Style Vita has a sense of calm and tranquility in her style. From her highly successful blog, you get the sense that there is a balance of chic modern, sophistication that she seeks to achieve in her lifestyle. Because of Jessica's fabulous style has garnered her the attention of several major and local publications like Simply Buckhead and Atlanta Magazine. After reading Jessica's blog be sure to check out her uber cute shop which displays some of her featured blog items.

Nikka Shae

Nikka Shae is a well known lifestyle blogger in the Atlanta area by-way of Huston, Texas. Nikka's website Oh Nikka is packed full of fashion and life hacks to get through your day beautifully. Nikka has been featured on Essence.com and 11Alive.com for their style segments. Not only has Shae been featured on syndicated television broadcast but she's also a trusted blogger for several beauty brands. It's safe to say that OH! Nikka is on her way to becoming a staple among Atlanta's trusted bloggers and social elite.

I'm so excited to share something that I've been dreaming about and now it's coming to fruition. This year I intend to release my own line of clothing. EEEEKKKK!!!!! This is so exciting for me Since my college years at Tuskegee University I've discussed how I want to develop my own line of clothing. Well it's happening.

For the longest I've mulled over whether or not to take sewing classes. After deciding that it as I must I begn scouring the internet looking for classes. I couldn't find a single class hat would teach me the basics. But because I believe in the super natural I know that God and the niverse made a wa because I'd finally taken the lea and said yes. A long time mentor of mine Mrs. DeAnna Drain posted on Facebook that her mother would be giving sewing classes at the local community service. I paid to the course that night. I didn't want to wait another minute.

After 8 weeks of learning I was ready to create on my own. But there was one problem. I didn't have my own personal machine. Again, I put my desires out for the world to se and just that quick I was paying for the shipping only for a gently used sewing machine from a dear friend. She will never understand how grateful I am to her for sewing in my dreams.

As of August or September of 2014 I've been practicing the art of sketching. I decided that If I was going to do this then I wanted to be all in. Today some of those sketches have become actual pieces that I've created. It's amazing to hold something that you dreamt, sketched or talked about for the past few years.

The sketch above is not a final product but it is a snap shot of my progress. I haven't been working at this for as long as some of the pros so I know I have to prove that I can maintain my own lane in this industry. At the moment I'm still understanding the direction in which my new collection is going but I believe that I've finally come up with the winning combination. I'll be sure to keep you all current.

For anyone doubting their talents, gifts, purpose or dreams please take these final words. According to society and the way it's constructed, I should be successful in anything that I'm doing. But I don't believe that. I never have and neither should you.
